Week One of the GN Bank Division One League got underway this weekend with a mixed bag of results, especially for some of the favorite teams, as they failed to secure the expected victories at home, while some of the newly promoted teams surprised with wins at home and ties on the road.

In Zone One, favorites W. NEA. Salamina stumbled somewhat out of the gates at home, as they were held to a surprising 2-2 tie by newly promoted side, Tamale City FC. Definitely not a good start for the Salamina lads. B. A. United also saw their season take off on a negative note, as they lost 3-2 to Steadfast FC away from home, and Bofoakwa did not disappoint their home fans, scoring a perfect start to the campaign with a 3-0 thumping of minnows, Gbewaa FC.

Real Tamale United also got the perfect boost to the start of the season following a 2-1 win over Kintampo FC, Glory Stars did same with a 4-0 thumping of newcomers, Suntaa SC, and Paga Crocodiles were unable to find their bite at home, as they settled for a 1-1 tie at home with Berekum Arsenal.

Results for Techiman City vs Nkoranza Warriors and Unity FC vs Young Apostle was not available at the time of this write-up.

Newly promoted Skyy FC defended their home turf with a 2-0 win over Asokwa Deportivo, FC Samatex showed some grit and toughness on the road, as they earned a crucial point in a 1-1 tie against a good Achiken FC side, and Sekondi Hasaacas also did same, earning a valuable point on the road against King Faisal in a 1-1 tie.

And DOL returnees, Venomous Vipers, got their season off to the absolute worst start, losing by two goals to nothing to fellow newly promoted side, Star Madrid FC.

Zone 3 favorites, Accra Gt. Olympics, saw their campaign get off to a slow start out of the gates. Perhaps, a result of all that energy spent on trying to secure a stay in the premiership through the courts, as they were held to a 1-1 tie at home by unsung newly promoted side, Agbozume Weavers. A fairly disappointing outcome for their teaming fans, who are expecting a quick return to the Premiership.  Vision FC secured an impressive fast start on the road with a 3-1 win over Nania FC. And another title hopeful side, Heart of Lions, got off to a slow start but they managed to secure all the 3points against Accra Lions at home.

Okyeman Planners gave their fans cause for worry despite picking up all 3points at home against Mighty Jets, courtesy of a lone goal in a game in which their fans were expecting the goals to flow. Demoted tier-one side, Tema Youth, found the going a bit tough at home, but they managed to settle for a point at home against visiting Amidaus Profs. And Kotoku Royals did not fare too well at home as they were held to a 1-1 by visiting Danbort FC.

Elsewhere in the zone, newly promoted Krystal Palace salvaged a point on the road against SP Mirren in a goalless tie, and so did Young Wise FC, who held Uncle “T” FC 1-1 tie away from home.
