Dear Ghanaians,
No other generation in the history of our beloved Ghana, has been more crucially burdened than our generation. We are the only generation serving as a bridge – a bridge between the dreams our forefathers left unfulfilled and the hopes of posterity yet unborn.
Generational nation-building requires that every era, leaves behind a Ghana better than they came to meet it. It guarantees that each generation starts from a foundation stronger and greater than their fathers. That is how great nations are built and continue being great.
We have lost our way and in case it is not obvious enough, let it be said - that with the resources we have, natural and human, THIS, is NOT, where Ghana ought to be. We are no more pacesetters nor the Black Star of Africa. We have become a political marketplace, where buying personal progress or national development requires conscience, as the only currency of legal tender - not hardwork, not skill, not honesty.
No, our problem is not the masses of uneducated, under-employed, under-valued or economically powerless citizenry. They have been left uneducated and economically dependent, because it makes them easier to manipulate. I do not blame them. I too have learned, that the burden of SURVIVAL, weighs heavy on any man or woman, than patriotism. The very reason they elect persons who claim to be better than them, so they too, can be helped, to experience a better standard of living.
It is We, who must speak for those who cannot but won't; We who have influence but won't use it because we are comfortable in our corners and as long as we are OK, nothing else matters; it is We, who CAN undo the rigged system, but won't step forward and be counted because we do not wish to soil our hard earned careers and reputations aka "Ghana politics is dirty"; We, who others look up to, to make the right choices but we won't put Ghana first because we are busy making money from system's failure; it is We, who are truly endowed with the Discipline, Grit and Wit this nation needs to progress but won't take the side of anything Progressive, because the political parties we belong to will call us traitors or that our family tradition might be broken; We, who are hallowed inspirations but won't shout the first or last Tsobooii, because we say "I prefer the background"; It is We, who have the brain power to build paths of prosperity for Ghana as a whole, but won't because no one has begged us; We... it is WE who have held Ghana here. It is we who must rise, so Ghana rises.
Patriotism is NOT a choice to be made when we see things going wrong - it is a DUTY we must each bear up.... without conditions.
When thieves rise up to be counted and we resist them not, what can we expect but a brazen theatre of thievery, injustice and despotism? When good men and women, endowed with mind, grit and wit rise up to be counted... how can we not have a Ghana that works for all of us? How can we not have a Ghana that is GREAT and STRONG?
May our consciences judge us and may the blood shed by our ancestors convict us all. God, has indeed blessed our Homeland, it is WE, who must make her Great and Strong...
Will You put Ghana above your comfort?
