Dear Parliament of the Republic of Ghana,
My name is Selorm Branttie, a voter and a citizen of Ghana who dabbles in many business activities.
It has come to my notice that most of the accidents on our highways are caused by stationary vehicles parked on the highways.
Recommended: Petition on why President Akufo-Addo should not allow the flat towing charges
I have also realized that these cars are mostly long vehicles and cargo goods trucks that do not have any emergency lighting system to warn unsuspecting motorists of their existence on the roads.
I have also realized that there are very few streetlights to light up our pitch dark highways inspite of the fact that approximately US$50 million annually is spent on streetlights.
Indeed, I am motivated by the passing of a Road Levy bill to resource one company with the sole responsibility of towing all cars on the highways.
Forget about the whining, too-known and bickering Ghanaians, most of whom were tired of the politics of contempt and voted you as a majority into power.
I humbly wish you to consider an Aerial Reconnaissance, Survellance and Exploration Levy, which will be called ARSE Levy for short.
This ARSE Levy should be pegged at 2% of the cost of renewing the licensing of a vehicle annually.
I will set up a company that will fly drones in the sky that pinpoint stationary vehicles and monitor them. It will deploy the latest infrared technology to see if the people in the car are inside, sleeping or trying to repair the car. Once the car is static for 20 minutes, the drone will send alerts to the tow company to come and pick the car.
The basic mathematics tell me that we have about 700,000 registered vehicles, of which some 400,000 might be mobile in some form or the other. We will recoup our investment in the 3rd year, after which we will be making money till our contract ends around the same time the oil fields offshore dry up.
Since this will prevent the loss of needless lives, without recourse to existing laws that can be easily and dutifully obeyed, and this is a proactive measure that will create employment, I humbly ask for the law to be brought before parliament as soon as possible.
I have already contacted two major drone companies, Parrot and DJI and they are ready to give me drones. All I need, dear Parliamentarians, are those who are willing to take the right "motivation" on both sides of the house to move the motion.
Long live the ARSE Levy, Long live Ghana!!!
I remain, your humble Ghanaian citizen who isn't a spectator,
Selorm Branttie
