  • This is the fate of the about 100,000 slum dwellers at Old Fadama at Agbogbloshie in the Greater Accra Region.

Written By Timothy Ngnenbe - It is an area of endemic poverty.A string of old, dilapidated wooden structures roofed with corrugated iron sheets serve as accommodation for the residents.

  • I know that what I am suggesting is against the grain of Ghanaian culture. The law should be enacted but should not be fully applied if it leads to the distress of the individual, especially the highly placed citizen. Thus, in the offices we have elaborate laws to maintain good order and efficiency.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) suggested that the occupants of Agbogbloshi should be relocated and he was strongly criticised.  The IGP is learned in the law and knowing the facts of the Agbogbloshi settlement, he should have asked that the squatters be removed from Gold Coast Railway lands.
