Ghana premier league


  • The Premier League Board (PLB) has confirmed December 18th, 2016 as the start date for the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League season.

    The start of the new PL season will be preceded by the highly anticipated Super Cup match between reigning PL Champions – Wa All Stars and MTN FA Cup Champions Bechem United set for December 4th, 2016.

    Registration for the first transfer window of the season is expected to open on November 14th, 2016 and close on February 13th, 2017.


    Several teams including perennial contenders Kumasi Asante Kotoko have started their preseason activities. Multiple outlets reported that Accra Hearts of Oak who are yet to make an appointment to their vacant Head Coaching position are having problems with getting their camp started as players are complaining over unpaid arrears. Most, if not all 16 teams are expected to be in camp by the end of the month.

    This year’s neophytes, Bolga All Stars (Upper East Region) and Elmina Sharks (Central Region) who qualified from Zones 1 and 2 respectively of the GN Bank Division One sponsored league are expected to join old-timers – Accra Gt. Olympics who successfully completed a short stay in the lower tier division following their relegation in 2015.

    New Edubiase, Sekondi Hasaacas and Techiman City were this year’s demotees.


  • The Premier League Board (PLB) has announced  that champions, Aduana Stars will be crowned during a special coronation match at Dormaa-Ahenkro on November 5, after match day 30 this weekend.

  • 2004 Continental Club Masters – Accra Hearts of Oak – will continue their preparations for the much delayed 2016/17 Ghana Premier League season scheduled to start on Sunday, February 4th, 2017 with a friendly against newly promoted side - Elmina Sharks - at the El Wak Sports Stadium this Sunday.

    The Premier League Board (PLB) has revised the first round fixtures of the Ghana Premier League. The revised fixture include dates for all outstanding matches to be cleared.

  • Newly minted Ghana Premier League champions, Wa All Stars, will be crowned 2015/16 Premier League Champion in their final league game of the season on Sunday September 18th, according to the Premier League Board.

    The first time PL Champions will play as guests of relegated Sekondi Hasaacas at the Essipong Stadium in Sekondi. The recently unveiled trophy will be given together with medals for players and members of the technical staff.

    Wa All Stars wrapped the momentous title triumph by defeating fellow title contenders - Aduana Stars - who were on the hunt for their second PL title in club history by two goals to one to win the title outright in their penultimate league match played on Wednesday at Wa’s Malik Jabir Park.

    Wa All Stars opened a 3point gap atop the summit over the defeated Aduana Stars, they also edged Aduana by a lone in the first encounter played at Aduana.

    With the win Wa All Stars moved 3points clear of Aduana ahead of the final game of the season, and by virtue of the head-to-head rule in play, Aduana cannot upset the new Champions for the crown irrespective of the score lines in their last games.

  • With just two games to the end of the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League football season, the relegation avoidance battle seems to be headed for another photo finish, with three teams from the nation’s capital caught up in the looming relegation web.
