- For his part, the founder and former President, Jerry John Rawlings said, “the NDC’s contribution to the socio-political stability of Ghana was due to our desire to embrace participatory governance, allowing the grassroots to have a significant say in the branches, wards, constituency, regional and national affairs.”
The former President and Leader of The National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has charged the Party members to go all out there to trumpet NDC records in government to the electorates.
According to him, NDC in Government has achieved so much for the Country and “let nobody ever make you feel ashamed about our record in government”.
Addressing the maiden edition of National Conference of Ex-Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (Ex-MMDCEs), in conjunction with NEC of The Party in Accra, President Mahamah said:, “we must be proud with our achievement in government. We faced much difficulty but in all that difficulty, we were able within a short period of time to be able to prove to the people of Ghana that, the NDC is a party that anytime in government, it brings progress and development to our people”.
He reminded the former MMDCEs', that,: “We faced a court case, (The Supreme Court Petition) that took eight 8 months and of four year term, and that period, we could not get the Country focus to do anything, there were Television everywhere and everyone is glued to it, washing my-lord my-lord, the pink sheet, Sanerugu Primaries and you’re and I were not there, almost one year, we couldn’t concentrate."
"Our development partners and other allies all developed wait and see attitude to see what was going to happen before they made a determination on how to proceed with government and so it made us loose almost a year with challenges and energy crisis during late Professor Mills’ time and full implementation Single Spine”.
Mr. Mahamah mentioned that,: “Despite all these we, managed to bring the economy into a stabilize footing. We undertook a very strong physical reforms that makes the economy breathe easier and begin withstand the growth."
He further stated that,: “We also followed a very strong infrastructural developmental program in five major sectors: extension of electricity to allover the Country, improvement to access to clean drinking water, we took it from 58% to 76%, about 3,500 kilometer road nationwide were constructed, we have expanded access to healthcare with new District Hospitals, Polyclinics and we built 1, 600 chip compounds across the country.”
With regard to education, we eliminated a lot Schools under trees, we started the single biggest expansion of secondary education in this Country, he asserted, and finally charged them, “and so, it a record that we must be proud of, let nobody ever make you feel ashamed about our record in government”.
For his part, the founder and former President, Jerry John Rawlings said, “the NDC’s contribution to the socio-political stability of Ghana was due to our desire to embrace participatory governance, allowing the grassroots to have a significant say in the branches, wards, constituency, regional and national affairs.”
The former President acknowledged that, “we suffered a painful loss in 2016 and while it is important that we do not allow that loss to retard our progress, we also have to recognize the truth in what lost us the election and exorcise our party of the ills that made us lose in spite of the considerable resources at our disposal.”
He believed that, the NDC was not a unified party in 2016, stressing the point that “the NDC was not in touch with the grassroots in 2016.
The NDC was not a bastion of stability in 2016 and the NDC sadly did not inspire confidence in the majority of Ghanaians in 2016.
The common denominator in these aforementioned flaws, were the lack of conscience and conviction in our dealings with the electorate.
That's according to former President Rawlings statement delivered on his behalf by a former Minister of State, Samuel Nuamah Donkor.
