- Players of the Black Stars could bag a whopping $90,000.00 each if they win next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

According to a reliable source at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, out of the $90,000 each player would receive $5,000 per match from the group stage to the final, whether they win, lose or draw.

And unlike the past when the Stars received appearance fees at major tournaments, the team will not be paid any appearance fee at AFCON 2015 as was the case in this year’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

If approved by Cabinet ahead of the AFCON campaign, this new emolument will be a benchmark for national teams and will be backed by a policy document by the Youth and Sports Ministry.

The current review of the generally perceived huge budget for the Stars in major competitions appears to have taken the wind out of the sail of the yet-to-be-presented Justice Senyo Dzamefe Commission’s report.

Hitherto, players of the Stars attracted $15,000 winning bonus at tournaments and $10,000 each during the AFCON 2015 qualifiers.

Players of the senior national team have received a lot of flak from Ghanaian soccer fans in the aftermath of their abysmal FIFA World Cup following their insistence on being paid $100,000 appearance fee in the course of the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

The issue resulted in a global embarrassment to the nation when over $3 million was flown to the Stars in Brazil and subsequently some players were captured kissing their booty in the team’s hotel in Brasilia.

That shameful saga prompted President John Mahama to set up a commission of inquiry to ascertain the causes of the Stars’ chaotic World Cup campaign
