- Surging Elmina Sharks produced an impressive first-half performance to beat Accra Hearts of Oak by two goals to one, as Coach Wellington suffered his third defeat as Hearts manager.
With five matches set for tomorrow, Elmina Sharks continued their impressive run with a comfortable 2-1 win over Accra Hearts of Oak on Saturday. And in the late match of the day, also at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, Medeama edged visiting Inter Allies by a lone goal.

Hearts of Oak vs Elmina Sharks – Cape Coast

The Sharks got off to the perfect start at the Cape Coast stadium with Felix Addo outjumping Hearts goalie, Ben Mensah, to nod home the opener after 25 minutes of play following a corner kick. Hearts went in search of the equalizer but were unable to capitalize on the few chances that came their way, and with the game seemingly heading to a lone goal advantage for the Sharks at the halfway mark, Obeng Crentsil thumped a powerful shot home after latching on to the ball just outside the box (41) to give his side a two-goal advantage at the break.
Hearts upped their game after the break as they sought to cut the deficit, but they had to wait till the 60th minute for substitute Malik Akowuah to do that for them, as well as set the stage for an interesting finale, but the Sharks held on for the winner as they defended their lead and resorted to counterattacks.
The win saw the Sharks extend their record to five straight unbeaten games (3wins and 2 ties) for 11points and the third spot, while Hearts dropped to the 5th spot, all on Saturday.
Medeama 1-0 Inter Allies – Cape Coast
Tetteh Zutah struck the winner early as Medeama SC secured a significant lone goal win against Inter Allies at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Saturday. Zutah headed home nicely from open after 16 minutes to seal his side’s first back to back win of the season.
The Capelli Boys put up a spirited fight for the equalizer throughout the remainder of the game, but were unable to break Medeama’s tough defense. They will, however, blame the referee for denying them a shot at the equalizer, as he failed to call an apparent handball against the Medeama defense in the box around the 36th minute.
Victory catapulted Medeama to the second spot on 13points, even with AshGold who will be in action tomorrow. For Inter Allies, the loss was their second straight, and it dropped them to the 6th spot on 9points.
Sunday
Eleven Wonders 2-1 WAFA – Nana Ameyaw Park
Debutante side, Eleven Wonders, produced a gutsy second-half performance for the full spoils as they overcame WAFA by two goals to one at home in the premier encounter between the two sides.
It was a two-minute goal blitz for the winner, as substitute Yusif Hussein smashed home the opener for Eleven Wonders at the 64th mark before Emmanuel Boahene took advantage of a cross to connect home.
WAFA pulled one back at the 76th mark from an unlikely source – Captain Mohammed Alhassa – to give his side some hope of getting back into the game, but it was not meant to be, as the home side held on for the win.
The loss, an uncharacteristic fourth straight for the Academy Boys saw them drop to the first relegation spot on 7points, while Eleven Wonders improved to 9th on 8points.
Dwarfs 2-1 Liberty Profs – Cape Coast
Sheer profligacy in front of goal and some poor defending cost Liberty Profs the maximum points as Ebusua Dwarf crawled their way back into the game for a 2-1 win to move out of the bottom places to the eleventh spot on 8points.
The visitors got off to a great start at the 24th minute mark courtesy of a contentious penalty that was awarded to Brite Andoh and was converted by Benjamin Eshun, but they were unable to add to their lead in spite of their dominance. A result that gave them a goal advantage at the break.

With Liberty unable to capitalize on their dominance to increase the tally after the break, Dwarfs’ perseverance for the equalizer was finally rewarded in the 84th minute, as Alhaji Mustapha struck target with a low header to set the stage for a nervy finish. And it was indeed a nervy and disappointing finish for the guests, as Dwarfs struck target just around the 90th minute mark with Dennis Korsah as the hero who delivered the maximum points. The loss saw Liberty fall back into the bottom places (15th) on 7points.
Dreams 1-0 Asante Kotoko – Dawu
On an afternoon that saw the sun and the rain have their way at the Theatre of Dreams in a highly entertaining match, it was the home side that emerged victorious to end their recent three-game non-winning run, thanks to last minute goal.

Following a highly entertaining first-half that was devoid of goals and an even more entertaining second half that was punctuated by a few close calls, and a shout out by Dreams FC for a spot kick after Richard Addae was bundled in the box, a sweet one-two exchange between Sharani and George Dwubeng saw the former release the latter who did well to slide the ball pass the onrushing Felix Annan in goal for Kotoko for the winner.
Berekum Chelsea 1-0 Bechem United – Golden City Park
In the derby of the weekend, Berekum Chelsea, secured a lone goal win over Bechem United to move out of the bottom places.
Stephen Amankona’s third goal of the season at the 39th minute mark – a header from Edmund Arko’s cross was the difference maker as the Berekum Blues held on for the full spoils.
The win moved B. Chelsea out of the bottom places to the 13th spot on 7points, with Bechem in 10th on 8points.
Wa All Stars 0-1 Karela FC – Wa Stadium
Wa All Stars failed to capitalize on their home turf to turn things around as they continued their abysmal start to the season with a stunning lone goal home loss to newly promoted side, Karela FC.
Imoro Ibrahim’s second-half strike from close range was the difference maker as a determined Karela FC side held on to the lead for the 3points and their first away win of the season.
The loss, the fourth of the season for the Northern Blues dropped them to the cellar of the Premier League table on 5points out of a possible 21. Karela FC improved to fourth on 11points.
