Winners of the National Women’s League Northern Zone, Ampem Darkoa Ladies, retained the National Women’s League (NWL) title after edging out Southern Zone winners, Lady Strikers, by a lone goal.
Ghana international, Priscilla Adubea, scored the only goal in the thrilling match played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi this past Saturday.
Last year, the Brong-Ahafo based side defeated Hasaacas Ladies 1-0 at Cape Coast to win the championship.
It was the first match-up between the two sides in the history of the playoff championships.
The match lived up to its hype, with the two sides clearly showing why they topped the table in their respective zones, in a keenly contested game that saw the defending champions hold off the pesky newcomers for the title.
A short ceremony held after the match saw Kerrie McCarthy win the best National goalkeeper of the 2016/2017 Women's League season. She was awarded a trophy, a pair of gloves, and an amount of GHS 300.00.
Priscilla Okyere was also adjudged overall best player of the season. She received a trophy, pair of boots, a football, and an amount of GHS 400.00.
The fair play award went to Lady Strikers FC. They also received an amount of GHS 5,000. 00 for coming in second best.
League champions Ampem Darkoa took home, a trophy and an amount of GHS 10,000. 00.
Police Ladies will face Prisons Ladies at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on 21 October in the Sanford FA Cup final.
The winner of that match will face Ampem Darkoa in a Super Cup match to round off the 2016/2017 National Women football season.
