Match Day 10 the National Women's League (NWL) will come off as scheduled this weekend with Northern Zone leaders – Ampem Darkoa – under pressure to haul in their first win after three tries and Southern Zone leaders – Sea Lions – in dire need of victory to hold on to the top spot.
In the Northern Zone, the pressure will be on Ampem Darkoa to end their recent three-game winless run as Kumasi Sports Academy who are just a point behind them continue to pile up the pressure for the summit. Fortunately, for Ampem Darkoa who won their first six matches before hitting their recent dry patch, they have the luck of playing at home this weekend against a terrible Northern Ladies side that has a poor record on the road. Ampem Darkoa won the first meet by two goals to one should not have any problems completing the double over their guests this weekend. One point off the summit – KSA – will have the chance to continue their relentless pursuit for the top spot as they welcome Ashtown Ladies to their turf. KSA edged Ashtown for the maximum points in a 3-2 thriller in the first round and should be able to grab the double given their opponents poor showing on the road.
Elsewhere, Lepo Ladies will be on the hunt for their third win of the season as they welcome Prison Ladies who have started the second half of the season on a much brighter note than they did the first half with a win and a tie. And Real Upper Ladies who remain winless after nine tries will have the chance to break their winless streak as they host third placed Fabulous Ladies.
NWL Match Day 10 – Northern Zone Pairings - SAT 05/SUN 06 August, 2017
Ampem Darkoa vs Northern Ladies - Ohene Ameyaw Park, Saturday
Real Upper Ladies vs Fabulous Ladies - Wa SHS Park, Saturday
Lepo Ladies vs Prisons Ladies - BATCO Park, Saturday
Kumasi Sports Academy vs Ashtown Ladies Prempeh College, Sunday
In the Southern Zone, the pressure will be on Sea Lions to bounce back from their recent 3-0 shutout loss at Samaria Ladies. Their schedule for this weekend looks a bit tough as they welcome their rivals – Lady Strikers - who will likely give them a hard time for the 3points at stake. The two sides played to a pulsating goalless tie in the first round. Given the advantages of playing at home plus the need to rebound, Sea Lions seem to have the edge but they cannot afford to take their guests for granted. Game in hand second placed Immigration Ladies will also have all the advantages of playing at home in their favor as they take on a Samaria Ladies side that is beaming with confidence following their recent triumphs. Interestingly, Immigration Ladies won the first clash away from home by three goals to one, they definitely have the edge at home but it will not come easy as their guests will likely pull out all the stops to avoid being swept.
Elsewhere, struggling giants, Hasaacas Ladies, who have managed just a win out of 8 games must do all they can on the road to pick up the full spoils or at worse avoid losing to Soccer Intellectuals. And Holy Royals who finally got their first win of the season last weekend will have the chance to make it two straight wins as they host Police Ladies.
