- Mr. Lamptey divulged that promoters and managers too are struggling because boxing has been put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The President of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation, Mr. George Lamptey, has appealed to the government to financially support the federation.
According to him, the federation gave the boxers some items, but they have not been able to support them financially.
He added that the Ghana Boxing Authority extended a portion of a stimulus package they received from Ghana Oil and Gas to his federation, which they in turn gave to their boxers and coaches.
He made it known that two amateur boxers who have qualified for the 2021 Olympics Games have not had their per diem paid.
He bemoaned the fact that the boxers struggle to find nourishing meals to eat after training.
Mr. Lamptey divulged that promoters and managers too are struggling because boxing has been put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He also stated that they are hoping that the Government lifts the ban on contact sports, noting that the boxers are currently training on their own with their coaches who have been divided into zones monitoring them.
He maintained that the association is in constant contact with the boxers and always advising them.
Mr. Lamptey made the above disclosures when he spoke concurrently with Benjamin Willie Graham on GTV Sports+ and Ohene Bampoe-Brenya on Happy FM.
