The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Athletics Association, Mr. Bawa Fuseini, has given a thumps up to the government’s plan to provide financial support to thousands of athletes in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr. Bawa Fuseini said he believes that the stipend will go a long way in helping the athletes financially.

He appealed to the government for financial aid for the association as well.

He stated that if the association does not receive financial aid, it would be a tall order to carry out the policies of the association to benefit the athletes.

He maintained that he knows the Sports Ministry will submit a proposal to the government for the government to assess the sports industry, since the sports industry is a huge one.

According to him, sports contribute to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the nation, offers employment, educates, and takes people off the streets.

Mr. Fuseini also made it known that the World Athletics and the International Athletics Foundation (IAF), has announced that a total of $600,000.00 will be distributed to athletes who are ranked above 7, athletes who have qualified for the olympic games, and athletes whose earnings have been affected across the globe in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr. Fuseini Bawa made the above comments when he spoke simultaneously to Benjamin Willie Graham on GTV Sports+ and Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy FM.
