- Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, has revealed that he never made a move for the new Manchester United goal poacher.Anthony Martial because Monaco told him he was not for sale.

"Basically, I was very surprised they sold him," Wenger revealed in several national newspapers.

"The amount of money was actually ridiculous and massive. I believe that you could think that, if you are in Monaco, you could have sold him as well in next season.

"So I thought they would not sell him this year because they sold many other players. I thought they would maintain their word. He was not on the run to make any move, and was not on the list. He was one of the players Monaco did not want to sell, so we never made an approach for him.

"Only an acceptable amount of money could do it. We always liked him, even when he was in Lyon.

Earlier, the France youngster sealed a £36m move from the

Ligue 1 side to Old Trafford on transfer deadline day.Martial's transfer came as a surprise to long-term admirer Wenger.

The young goal-wizard has had a good start to his Manchester Utd. career, scoring four goals in his first four games, and could play against Arsenal in the Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon - tomorrow.

If Wenger had succeeded in luring him to North London. He would have donned the Arsenal jersey, rather than playing against them.
