Ghana international Thomas Partey was pleased to finally make his Atletico Madrid debut in their hard fought 1-0 win over Espanyol on Saturday.
The 22-year old defensive midfielder and product of Odometeh FC replaced Argentine attacker Luciano Vietto in the 57th minute of the game and was excellent.
Thomas took his chance with both hands and made a good impression on the fans at the Calderon. Having no doubt on the ball, He came close to scoring the second goal with a late effort.
Thomas said "I have been working hard for this day. I'm very happy to have made my debut for a big club like Atletico and I was not nervous at all"
Born in Odumase Krobo, Thomas signed for the Red and whites in 2011 but had to spend a season with the B side where he scored four goals in 33 outings before being loaned to Mallorca and Almeria in the last two seasons.
However, his loan spell at Almeria was a positive one which prompted Diego Simeone to include him in Atletico's squad for the champion’s league.
And with Portuguese Tiago set to miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken leg against Espanyol, Partey could fancy his chances of playing.
